What’s the purpose of the project?

This Quality Education Fund project, ‘Developing English language skills through the integration of tablets at Junior Secondary level’ has been run with three secondary schools since 2015/16.

The project has provided professional development and co-planning sessions for English language teachers to explore the uses of learning technologies using tablets for language learning with junior secondary students. It has also provided collaborative opportunities between the schools to share experiences gained during the classroom try-outs and hear reflections from students.

The objective of the project is to provide motivating ways for students to develop their English language skills and to support the collaboration between teachers within schools and between schools.

Year 2 Schools Sharing Session: ‘Tech with Teens’

What is the event about?

Tech with Teens: English language classroom ideas for Junior Secondary teachers and students is an exciting schools sharing event where the teacher and student groups on the project will:

  • share their lesson ideas for different language skills work using tech
  • explain activities and ways of grouping students for inclusivity and mixed abilities
  • show apps and websites used for language learning
  • give hands-on practice to teacher and student audience members

Participating teachers and students will leave the event with:

  • real-life stories about how technologies can be used for learning
  • practical tips, hints and lesson ideas
  • ideas for websites and apps to support language learning and 21st century skills

How many sessions are there?

Three school teams of teachers and students from CMA Choi Cheung Kok Secondary School, St Paul’s Convent School and True Light Middle School of Hong Kong will run parallel sessions. Each of the school teams will offer three sessions. British Council trainers will also offer sessions.

Is the event for you?

The event will be useful and enjoyable for teachers and students attending in small groups from each school.

You need to have an interest in using technology to learn English and a willingness to take part and have a go.

It will be particularly interesting for English language teachers who want some practical ideas on how to start to integrating learning technologies through tablets into their Junior Secondary classrooms.
