Course content

Our Primary Foundation English course gives young learners the essential building blocks for English language development. Through fun and interactive lessons, children begin to develop foundation-level skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The course also nurtures creativity, curiosity, and confidence in communication.

Your child will explore:

  • Phonics and literacy foundations: Learning the alphabet, sound-letter relationships, and simple words and sentences to support early reading and pronunciation.
  • Vocabulary and grammar in everyday contexts: Exploring familiar topics like school, family, homes, and animals, while learning essential grammar, such as “is/are,” “have/has,” and “can.”
  • Reading and listening skills: Engaging with stories, poems, and informational texts, and developing strategies to understand, predict, and respond to what they hear and read.
  • Speaking and creative projects: Expressing ideas through speaking tasks and hands-on projects like name cards, posters, and shoebox rooms.

In this course, your child will:

  • Learn to write simple sentences and gain confidence in reading and writing.
  • Build vocabulary and grammar to talk about familiar topics like school, family, and daily routines.
  • Understand and express feelings, preferences, and ideas in English.
  • Explore the world around them through stories, poems, and informational texts.
  • Develop phonics skills to support accurate pronunciation and early reading.

They will achieve this by:

  • Talking about their likes, dislikes, and interests through speaking and listening activities.
  • Comparing homes, families, and routines to recognise similarities and differences.
  • Describing places and objects in their environment, such as their bedroom or classroom.
  • Engaging with stories and texts that help them identify emotions and make connections.
  • Participating in creative projects like making posters, name cards, and shoebox rooms to express themselves.
