Students face varying challenges as primary school progresses. These skill-based intensive courses help develop your child’s reading, speaking and writing skills and expand their vocabulary. Our LEGO course will inspire your child to link STEM concepts to real-life situations while working on building tools and implements.

P1–P2 Reading to Write

This is a theme-based course that will help your child learn techniques and strategies to improve their reading comprehension, as they explore two fun stories. Your child will also work on their writing skills as they respond to the stories, by engaging in creative activities that will get them to practise foundational skills (spelling, punctuation) and use their imagination to guess events, create alternative endings, and give their opinions.

Underwater Wonders

Students will use modern storybooks about various sea animals to encourage an enjoyment of reading and writing. Your child will learn skills and techniques that will improve their reading comprehension and their ability to identify different literary techniques used in English stories. They will also be writing to respond to the stories: expanding the narratives in new, creative ways, adding characters, and giving their opinions. Your child will

  • develop their reading comprehension skills
  • improve their vocabulary through reading stories
  • develop their knowledge and awareness of literary techniques used in stories, such as rhyme, and onomatopoeia like ‘slam’, ‘splash’, ‘drizzle’ and ‘woof’
  • explore elements of the stories in writing, by answering questions and giving their opinions
  • reinforce their blending and segmenting abilities to improve their spelling and other formal aspects of writing.

P3–P6 Writing Skills

Our Writing Skills courses are designed to help your child think creatively, express their ideas with clear purpose and understand the process of writing. Depending on their age group, they will explore a variety of text types, including stories, letters, procedures, descriptions, reviews, and reports.

P3-P4 Writing Skills

This writing course aims to develop children’s creativity by engaging with different kinds of text. By analysing and responding to an engaging tale, a letter, and quirky news stories, your child will become familiar with the features of such texts, extending their repertoire to produce their own interesting, funny and insightful texts. By the end of the course, they will have focused on:

  • analysing and reproducing the structure of fairy tales and other stories.
  • reading and writing formal letters in response to a situation gone wrong.
  • producing news stories about animals.

As they work on these text types, your child will be better able to understand and use indirect and direct speech, formal vocabulary and grammar, as well as the characteristics of narratives. Learners will also learn about and practise process writing, which will be helpful for all kinds of creative and academic writing.
