Role overview
British Council Hong Kong is recruiting an enthusiastic and dedicated Academic Manager Talent & Development to join our dynamic teaching team starting in September 2019. We are keen to appoint an academic manager who can demonstrate a high level of professional skill and willingness to learn and develop. We offer a 40-hour-per-week contract which involves up to 9 classroom hours a week.
As a large teaching centre with a mixed range of products (kindergarten, primary, secondary, and adult courses), the need for weekend Duty Management and cover means you will be required to work a Sunday to Thursday timetable (Friday/Saturday weekend) or a Tuesday to Saturday timetable (Sunday/Monday weekend).
Duty Management shifts involve supporting teachers across the full range of courses and age groups offered by the centre, so the post holder must be prepared to become familiar with the Young Learner and Adult courses and systems offered by the centre, and work with the YL and Adult academic teams on Duty Management issues.
In our teaching centre we aim to provide the best English language teaching available. For this reason we also require:
- education to degree level or equivalent qualification
- a diploma level TEFL qualification (Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Diploma)
- a minimum of 3 full years post TEFL-Q qualification teaching experience
- experience of delivering and evaluating learning and development training programmes
- Experience of delivering and evaluating mentoring programmes
- Experience of line management and classroom observation & feedback
- high proficiency in the use of the English language equivalent to IELTS band 8/9
- evidence of specific behavioural competencies
For more details of TEFL qualifications, please see here: http://www.britishcouncil.org/jobs/careers/english/teachers
Desirable criteria found in the role profile document may be used during the selection process.
Training and development are an integral part of the British Council culture and in Hong Kong we provide a wide range of opportunities to enable our teachers to develop professionally, including an extensive internal development programme, support and funding in obtaining internationally recognised qualifications, as well as opportunities to present at renowned conferences around the globe.
